Breaking Borders is a 12-week school project reimagining a large-scale Punjabi music festival celebrating South Asian culture in a global setting. Set in Malta, this rebrand draws from the island’s warm, tropical atmosphere while exploring the fusion of cultures that defines the festival. The visual system is bold and flexible, designed to support a high-energy, multi-day event while balancing clear navigation with a sense of movement, celebration, and breaking borders through shared experiences.

Designed for a large, international crowd, the flyer and wayfinding focus on visibility and clarity in busy festival spaces. Bold type, high contrast, and simple layouts help people navigate stages, merch, food, and other key areas quickly, even in crowded, fast-moving environments. The designs reflect the energy of the festival while supporting a multilingual, travel-heavy audience experiencing both the event and the location for the first time.

The tote bags extend the festival identity beyond the event itself. Variations in color and layout make each bag feel collectable, reusable, and connected to the overall visual system. One style features the primary wordmark, while the other uses the secondary logo seen across the festival. The designs stay simple and rotate through the five-color palette.

The wristbands and tickets use a simple color system to make things easy, with purple for general admission and red for VIP. The fan and popcorn bucket lean more playful, adding to the festival atmosphere while still feeling on-brand. The fan is also a practical response to the Malta heat, turning something useful into part of the experience.

The festival program is a small square booklet that fits in one hand. The cover shows the main wordmark, and inside festivalgoers will find the four-day schedule with all the performances and events. The next spread lays out shuttle times across the island, timed to match the events so festivalgoers can get around easily. Fully opened, it includes maps of the two main event spaces for quick reference. It folds back into a neat square, with the back cover giving key festival info. Everything is in English and Punjabi, making it easy for the international crowd to follow along.
